The 2021 Lucid Air – Boasts 517 mile range, 9.9 second quarter mile

Long scoffed at, electric vehicles have taken the world by storm, proving their naysayers wrong. Year after year, EV manufacturers have blown our collective minds with their novel innovations, and they’ve done it again.

Lucid Motors, the California based Electric Vehicle manufacturer has debuted the Lucid Air, their newest automotive marvel that boasts a 517-mile range on a single charge and races through a quarter mile in 9.9 seconds. The production version was revealed in an online event on Wednesday.

Expected to be on the market next spring, the Lucid Air is powered by dual motors supplying 1080 hp to its all-wheel drive system, enabling it to reach the sub 10 second quarter mile, a feat for any car, whether electric or gas. All this power is a result of its 900V electric drive unit that weighs just 74 kgs and would fit in a standard airline carry-on trolley bag.

Even more impressive are the charging features. The Lucid’s Wunderbox charging unit is state of the art and is at the heart of the Air’s electrical platform. The Wunderbox, developed entirely in-house, allows the Air to charge at rates of 300 miles in just 20 minutes, or 20 miles per minute for shorter charge periods.

As you’d expect, the Air is loaded with interactive tech. Touchscreens with a variety of control functions cover the dashboard, especially the nearly 3 feet wide 5k resolution touchscreen right in front of the driver. This may seem like a lot, but the tech is far from overwhelming. The interior is futuristic, but not pretentiously so. It’s been designed with a minimalist touch, to keep things as simple and ergonomic as possible. The same could be said for the exteriors –sleek and futuristic, but never out of place.

Expected to cost around 169,000 $, the Air should be available for purchase by next spring. The future is here kids, and it looks awesome.
