Audi has released details of the Q4 Sportback E-tron, a coupe version of the Q4 E-tron that was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor show. The Sportback is Audi’s seventh fully electric vehicle. As you could divine from the E in the titles, both E-trons are fully electric, and quite identical in specs.
Both vehicles are quattro all wheel drives and utilize dual motors offering a combined 225 kW of system output. Although the top speed is limited to 180 km/h, they offer a nifty acceleration of 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and in our opinion is a lot more valuable than top speed when it comes to city driving. The large 82 kW battery occupies almost the entire underbody space between the axles and offers a range of over 450 kms.
Aesthetics are where the differences start to emerge. The Sportback is curved and sleek, while the original E-tron appears larger and more imposing. The silhouette of the sportback slopes downward to the back and the roof line transitions into the inclined D-pillars, ending in a horizontal spoiler at the level of the lower window ledge, making the Sportback appear much longer than its twin. Design wise, the differences appear to similar to those between the BMW X5 and X6, or at least seems so in the pictures. We will have to wait until next year to lay eyes on the final product to make our closing arguments.
The Sportback is Audi’s seventh fully electric vehicle and we are more than glad that they are going in the green direction. Although we will miss our roaring oil powered engines, it is a necessary step to ensuring an efficient future and a cleaner planet.
