After 24 long years, the Ford Bronco is finally back, ready to take on any terrain the planet can offer. This compact SUV will have all the design quirks of its predecessors, while introducing brand new off roading features. Offering a 2 door and a 4 door version, the Bronco is aimed as a not so subtle threat to the Jeep Wrangler, especially with thy myriad of customization options available.
This 4×4 is offered in two primary powertrain options, a 2.3L 4 cylinder with a 270 hp output, and a 2.6L V6 spitting 310 hp. Both these petrol powered beasts are turbocharged and come with at standard 10 speed automatic transmission, but you can also opt to get the 4 cylinder in 7 speed manual transmission if you’re a traditionalist.
The Bronco boasts 35 inch tires, nearly a foot of ground clearance (11.6 inches), and 35 inches of water fording capacity, which is more than enough to conquer most traditional off roading terrains. Moreover, it possesses a departure angle of 37.2 degrees and a breakover angle of 29 degrees, enabling you to easily handle sharp drops and steep inclines that you may encounter while off roading.
It features a Terrain Management system, cleverly called “ G.O.A.T. – Goes Over Any type of Terrain”, that allows you to adjust your driving mode depending on your environment. The 5 standard modes are Sand, Slippery, Sport, Eco, and Normal. However, the Badlands version of the Bronco comes with two additional modes – Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl, and also substitutes the standard Sport mode for Baja, a high speed desert running mode that was popularized with the 2017 F-150 Raptor.
Staying true to the original Bronco, the 2021 version features removable roofs and removable frameless doors. The interiors are minimalistic in design and seem “tough and hard-wearing” according to Tom Harrison of Top Gear online , which we feel goes hand in hard with the rugged demeanour that the Bronco possesses.
Even if you’re a newbie to the world of off roading, the Bronco offers advanced topographical trail maps programmed into it’s SYNC4 system that can be viewed on the 8 or 12 inch infotainment system.
All things said, the Bronco is starting to look like an excellent competitor to the Jeep wrangler and we can’t wait for its release in mid-2021. Starting at 29,995 USD (a little over 110,000 AED), the new Bronco can be pre ordered today on ford.com just 100 USD.
