“Performance”, is a broad term that’s thrown around every time a new vehicle is released. For the most part, luxury carmakers rarely embellish the performance stats of their new releases. Merecedes-AMG was created with just one goal in mind – to develop vehicles with higher power and higher performance, worthy of a racetrack, and not once have they ever failed in achieving that goal.
The AMG black series has been the envy of many a car collector since its debut in 2006, and rightly so. Despite being approved for the roads, they were bred for the racetrack where they will be allowed to unleash their full potential, showing their rivals what “performance” really means. The new AMG GT Black series pushes those performance boundaries further as it is the most powerful AMG with a V8 engine.
Performance and Aerodynamics
Thanks to the 4 litre V8 biturbo motor, the new AMG puts out an insane 730 hp, enabling it to go from 0-100 kph in a mere 3.2 seconds, and 0-200 in under 9 seconds. It offers significantly more power than the previous flagship model of the GT family, an even more agile throttle response, and maximum torque, achieved in part by creating a new flat design for its crankshaft
Obviously, the aerodynamic design plays a huge part in the performance of the new GT. The bodyshell is designed to lower air resistance and increase downforce and many of its aerodynamic features can be manually adjusted according to the drivers preference. For example, the front diffuser has two manually adjustable settings – Street and Race (exclusively for use on tracks). In addition, the flap on the upper rear aerofoil blade is adjustable by 20 degrees, either manually or automatically, depending on the selected drive program or AMG DYNAMICS position. The double rear aerofoil has mechanically adjustable blades too.
As with most sports cars, the GT is also built with Carbon fibre and Aluminium in order to reduce weight, making sure that most of the output goes into speed. The bonnet, tailgate, transmission mount, and drive shaft are made of carbon fibre while the integral carrier at the front axle and instrument panel are of Aluminium.
Aesthetics and interiors
The exterior of the new GT black is not radically different from its predecessors, with much of the original design being incorporated in this iteration. However, it still manages to look very different, thanks to its kind undulating lines, giving it a more graceful look. It’s less intimidating, but a lot more classy.
The interiors just add to that classiness. The black nappa leather with the orange stitching and matte black carbon fibre trim is subtle and easy on the eyes. The steering wheel, door panel, and instrument panel are made of DINAMICA microfibre with the same orange topstitching. The instrument panel is tech heavy, but not overwhelmingly so.
Mercedes AMG has consistently put out some of the best vehicles in the past two decades, and the new GT exceeds expectations in every way imaginable.
